NPSNET: A Network Software Architecture For Large Scale Virtual Environments
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper explores the issues involved in designing and developing network softrarare architectures for large-scale virtual environments. We present our ideas in the context of NPSNET-IV, the first 3-D virtual environment that incorDorates both the IEEE 1278 distributed interactive simulation (DlS) application protocol and the lP multicast network protocol for multiplayer simulation over the lnternet.

Exploiting reality with multicast groups: a network architecture for large-scale virtual environments
We describe a network software architecture for solving the problem of scaling very large distributed simulations. The fundamental idea is to logically partition virtual environments by associating spatial, temporal, and functionally related entity classes with network multicast groups. We exploit the actual characteristics of the real-world large-scale environments that are simulated by focusi...

The virtual environment research community is focusing on the human-computer interaction model for fully-articulated 3D humans in the networked virtual environment. As that works moves forward, there is the desire to internetwork large numbers of players. The NPSNET Research Group is in the forefront of that work and is focusing on the network and software architecture necessary to support larg...
متن کاملThe Software Required for the Computer Generation of Virtual Environments
The first phase of virtual world development has focused on the novel hardware (3D input and 3D output) and the graphics demo. The second phase of virtual worlds development will be to focus in on the more significant part of the problem, the software bed underlying “real” applications. The focus of this paper is on the software required to support large scale, networked, multi-party virtual en...

The Naval Postgraduate School Networked Vehicle Simulator IV (NPSNET-IV) is a lowcost, student written, real-time networked vehicle simulator that runs on commercial, off-theshelf workstations (the Silicon Graphics IRIS family of computers). NPSNET-IV has been developed at the Naval Postgraduate School’s (NPS) Department of Computer Science in the Graphics and Video Laboratory. It utilizes Simu...
